Why organization is important in Zettelkasten

Simply shoving a bunch of slips in your slipbox with no way to intelligently sort or look any of it up later results in the effective loss of that information. It’s no different than writing yourself a note, putting it in a drawer, and never coming back to it. The entire purpose of Zettelkasten is to make small, discrete, connected, and searchable notes that come together form a larger concept; rather than making a single, large, monolithic, heavily edited document or set of documents to describe that concept, where information can be lost in the noise; or making undocumented, disconnected, variable length, standalone notes without context that do not come together to form a meaningful whole.
